SURVIVING THE SILENCE

DOCUMENTARY

SURVIVING THE SILENCE OVERVIEW

I worked alongside Cindy Abel (Atlantis Moon Productions) to bring Surviving the Silence to life, our second award-winning feature documentary following Breaking Through. The film tells the untold story of Colonel Pat Thompson, a decorated military nurse who was secretly living as a lesbian while presiding over the hearing that led to Colonel Margarethe Cammermeyer’s dismissal—a pivotal moment in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights in the military.

As Director of Photography, I was the principal creative behind photography, often operating multiple cameras solo, handling audio and lighting, and capturing interviews and b-roll. As Editor and Post-Production Coordinator, I worked closely with the director to cut down over 25 hours of footage, design motion graphics, complete visual effects, and refine the film’s sound and color. I also collaborated with animators, sound designers, and composers, ensuring a seamless post-production process.

Beyond editorial and technical execution, I managed complex post-production workflows, developing an efficient editing and color-correction pipeline that allowed for real-time collaboration with multiple teams. I also handled archival research, securing key historical footage, and executed frame clean-ups and VFX enhancements, including sky replacements, green screen keying, and background compositing for continuity. Additionally, I coordinated festival and distribution deliverables, ensuring legal compliance, organizing copyright permissions, and overseeing final Blu-ray/DVD creation and theatrical trailers.

The final film obtained distribution and is available on multiple platforms, including Amazon Prime, Apple TV, YouTube, Vimeo, Vudu, and Google Play. Learn more about the project here.

Rock & Chisel

DOCUMENTARY

ROCK AND CHISEL OVERVIEW

I filmed the feature-length documentary Rock and Chisel, which evolved from the short piece No Less Than Truth, a biographical introduction to the late artist Steffen Thomas. The project began as an 11.5-minute short film, called No Less Than Truth, that used within the Steffen Thomas Museum of Art and was later expanded into a full-length documentary set to air on Public Broadcast.

Working alongside director/producer Jesse Freeman of Milk Crate Media, I captured an extensive range of interviews featuring collectors, art professors, and Thomas’ family, providing a rich perspective on his legacy. I also filmed his artwork across the Southeast, ensuring each piece was documented with care and attention to its historical and artistic significance. My cinematography on the film earned a Southeast Emmy nomination, recognizing the visual storytelling that highlighted Thomas’ expressionist works, philosophy, and lasting impact on the art world.

MODERNISM FORETOLD

SHORT DOCUMENTARY

MODERNISM FORETOLD OVERVIEW

I collaborated with Jesse from Milk Crate Films to film and edit a piece showcasing The Nadler Collection at the Georgia Museum of Art. This exhibition, Modernism Foretold: The Nadler Collection of Late Antique Art from Egypt, highlighted a rare and personal collection of late antique Egyptian art, loaned from Emanuel and Ana Nadler.

The collection, originally assembled by Maurice Nadler in Alexandria during the early 20th century, reflects the multicultural influences of the region, blending Ancient Egyptian, Classical Greek and Roman, Coptic Christian, and Arabic artistic traditions. The video follows Professor Asen Kirin, the Parker Curator of Russian Art, as he provides an intimate tour, offering insight into the historical and artistic significance of these works.

A GOOD DAY

SHORT FILM

A GOOD DAY OVERVIEW

I created A Good Day in collaboration with Out of Hand Theater and Families First, a short film that spotlights the counseling services Families First provides to families in need. Through cinematic storytelling, the film offers a powerful glimpse into the support and guidance that helps individuals navigate life’s challenges.

Additionally, I worked with Out of Hand Theater on two other short films, each running approximately 15 minutes, where I handled solo cinematography, operating multiple cameras, managing lighting, and handling audio throughout production. I then edited, color-corrected, and finalized the films within a week or two, creating visually compelling narratives that capture the essence of each project with precision and artistry.
