Modernism Foretold: The Nadler Collection

Working in collaboration with my colleague, Jesse, from Milk Crate Films, I filmed and edited this piece showcasing The Nadler Collection at the Georgia Museum of Art.
A highlight of the museum’s 2021 exhibitions, “Modernism Foretold: The Nadler Collection of Late Antique Art from Egypt,” features a uniquely personal collection of late antique Egyptian art (often called Coptic art) loaned from Emanuel and Ana Nadler. Emanuel’s father, Maurice Nadler, collected most of the works during the first half of the 20th Century in Alexandria, an important port city on the Mediterranean coast. The Nadler family collection features works from the 3rd through the 8th centuries CE. For centuries Alexandria was a cultural melting pot, a place where people of different cultures, languages, and faith traditions lived in relative harmony. The collection uniquely expresses those multicultural characteristics of the region, with clear influences of Ancient Egyptian art, Classical Greek and Roman art, Coptic Christian themes, as well as Arabic influence.
